Applied Power and Controls, Inc. was the electrical engineering firm responsible for power system enhancements and incorporating use of Qty 1 – 2 MW Electrical Generator at Clintondale Pump Station. System operates at 4,800V that has two (2) incoming lines (primary and standby) and is capable of automatic synchronization, closed transition; peak shaving in a non-sell back configuration with local utility. Duties included performing field investigation; short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash studies and analysis utilizing EDSA software. Also, responsible for electrical design for integration of new switchgear and controls into existing switchgear and controls. Existing system switchgear is 1960’s vintage GE “Magnablast” that was retrofitted. New switchgear is vacuum circuit breaker style with PLC controls. Worked diligently with DTE Energy for design approvals. Duties also included design for power and controls for 4,000 gallon above ground storage tank heaters, level controller, heat trace, and leak detection alarms.
