Applied Power and Controls, Inc. was the electrical engineering firm responsible for power system enhancements and incorporating use of Qty 4 – 2 MW Electrical Generators at Waterworks Park Plant. System operates at 4160V and has three (3) incoming utility lines configured in a Ring Bus arrangement with automatic tie breaker closing on all three (3) independent buses. Duties included performing field investigation; short circuit, coordination and arc flash studies and analysis utilizing EDSA software. Also, responsible for electrical design for integration of new switchgear and controls into existing switchgear and controls. Existing breakers are Westinghouse/Cutler Hammer medium voltage type. Also designed all new Bus Duct runs to tie into existing Cutler-Hammer Bus Ducts. New switchgear is vacuum circuit breaker style with PLC controls. Duties also included design for power and controls for 18,000 gallon above ground storage tank heaters, level controller, heat trace, and leak detection alarms.
