SDBA Streetscape Project

Applied Power and Controls, Inc. was lead Electrical Engineering consultant firm on SDBA Streetscape Project in Southwest Detroit, along a 2.3-mile stretch of West Vernor Highway from Clark Park to Patton Park to replace nearly 200 nonfunctional and damaged streetlights. This lighting replacement project included the restoration of the aesthetics of the streetlights with newer poles with LED lamps, sidewalks, curbs and with underground wiring. APC performed field investigations which included assessing existing site conditions and evaluating existing underground electrical distribution systems, street lights, foundations, and pole assemblies. APC developed engineering drawings and specifications for underground electrical conduit and cable that would service street lighting along the project area. This project involved all new sidewalks, curbs, ramps, landscaping as well as all new electrical (cable, conduit, poles, fixtures , transformers, lighting control box, etc.) for street lighting only. Detailed wiring diagrams were furnished showing light locations as part of design. APC identified sources for power to the new street lights. Worked in cooperation with various agencies such as PLD, DPW, MDOT and DTE. Coordinated design with Giffels-Webster Engineers, who was the civil engineering firm for project.
