Power and Controls engineering expertise were called upon
due to recent failure of the transformer for one of the
incoming high voltage power feeds for the Waste Water
Treatment plant has forced DWSD to temporarily divert
a transformer from the Imlay City project while a permanent
replacement was repaired.
The
Imlay City transformer was smaller than the original WWTP
transformer. As a result, DWSD had concerns that the transformer
will be too small for operation in all conditions. APC
submitted Power Systems Report that addressed the conditions
under which the transformer may be exposed to, whether
the transformer is capable of handling those conditions,
and how to mitigate the system in the event that the transformer
is not capable of handling certain conditions. In addition,
report included temporary relay settings for the main
breaker selected, and a short circuit study of the13800
V buses performed.
